Processing the bean

The fruits of the coffee plant are known as coffee cherries. Each of them contains two beans in it. Some cheery have only one bean inside and are known as pea berries. It is smaller and more flavorful. The cherries collected are processed to remove the covering and dry the seeds. Three techniques are used to process the coffee bean are:

  • Dry process
  • Wet process
  • Hybrid process

The coffee obtained by this method is known as “green coffee” and is ready for roasting.

How is coffee made? Steps involved in it

Grading

After green coffee has been processed, the bean is introduced for the grading process. Each country has its own defined types and grades of coffee beans. That is based on their region, botanical variety, size, density, and other factors.

Decaffeination

Coffee drinkers delight in the taste of coffee but do not tolerate the surprise of caffeine. So the decaffeination method was introduced to reduce the level of caffeine in coffee. This method includes chemical solvents, carbon dioxide extraction, and carbon filters. This is done before roasting the bean. This method is to remove adulteration in the coffee but not remove the 100% caffeine content in the coffee.

Roasting

The quality of the coffee beans is improved by introducing the beans to roasting at a high temperature. The temperature during the roasting is increased to about 180 to 250 °C for 10 to 20 minutes. Roasting too long at this temperature can spoil the flavor of the bean and make it useless.

Grinding

The coffee beans are grinded or milled next to roasting. Here the beans are first cracked and then cut into the desired size. Then the beans are grinded into a fine powder. Its fineness is important to pick up the flavor. https://buzzcoffee.com.au/products/mexico-coffee supplies the best coffee.

Packing

After grinding, the powder is packed to prevent air and moisture from entering the coffee.
