Here are tips to help you clean up your home’s exterior.
- Remove clutter
Remove clutter that has not been used in the last year such as grills, lawn chairs, and toys. Also remove trash cans, tattered old awnings and other junk that detract from the house’s appearance. If you are thinking of staging your home, now is the time to do any necessary painting.
- Repair damaged siding
Repair holes in the stucco by applying a cement patch and repairing cracks in the concrete or masonry with a concrete patch. Make sure that all repairs are repaired to be watertight, preventing water from penetrating into the home’s walls, causing damage to the house.
- Replace broken roof tiles
Broken roof tiles can be replaced by purchasing new ones or repairing them yourself. If you are going to repair them yourself, you will require a hammer and rubber mallet, tool to remove old tile (if necessary), trowel and a bucket of mortar mix. Use a hammer and rubber mallet to break off the damaged tile from the roof. Remove any debris with a broom or leaf blower. Mix the mortar according to instructions and add water. Use trowel to apply mortar where the new tile will be placed. Make sure that you place the new tile in an overlapping pattern with the old one. Press down on the tile with a rubber mallet until secure.
- Repair damaged roof shingles
Shingles can get damaged by heavy rain or hail storms that can cause bubbles or rips in your roofing shingles. If the shingles get damaged, you should remove the damaged shingles and replace them with new ones. You can change individual shingles or you can change the whole roof. If you need to replace just a few shingles, it is easier to do it yourself if you have access to a ladder and if there is not too much damage on the roof.
